6th January, 1918

My dearest mouse! Today I must turn to my book to be able to talk to you. In the long months which have elapsed since my last "letter" I have consciously avoided my book of letters. These 4 months were the time of my breakdown. But today, my love, when all my thoughts are flying to you my darling, I have to write at least a few lines. Nine years! And I am looking forward to you my darling even more than I did 9 years ago.

My little mouse, I am coming home to woo you anew, to enjoy the happiness that emanates from you. An hour ago the news spread through our camp that peace has been made! I don't quite believe it yet but it can't be far any more. Now liberation is near and the time is coming when I shall take you in my arms and almost choke you with my kisses.
